An oldie (1971) but goodie; a winter/spring romance with a large dose of existential absurdity.
"Harold and Maude."

Yes, it's a documentary.
The cinematography, the vast landscape: wonderful.

fuck that looks good...did u see it? IF so.....what did u think.
I have a feeling that even I will be shocked when I view this.
The average Jew is like the average christian....we go to the house of worship when its convenient to us, usually for big holidays only, and we pick and choose what parts of the religion we would like to follow and adhere to.
So to the community in that movie.....me and my family growing up when I had some religion in my life were as good as muslim or aliens from another planet. We were 1000000 miles away. To them you are all in or all out. So I was all out.
looks interesting, and no different than scientology in the protective nature and us against them .
except scientologists are out amongst us trying to get more members, and the Hassidic Jews are enclosed not interested in getting new members I suspect.....its not that easy.
I think I will learn as much as a non jew from this film.
I dont havew netflix,..will have to wait for it to hit hbo

No, I haven't seen it yet, but I'll try to get it through Netflix.
I thought it might resonate with you.
Sort of reminds me of a movie about people who leave the Amish community in their late teens.

I'm gonna let this thread veer a bit.
What movies had the biggest impact / affect on you as a kid?
For me:
Godzilla
The Longest Day
Oh Lucky Man
Wizard of Oz
Babes in Toyland, aka March of the Wooden Soldiers
They all evoked strong mood and made me think about some of life's big issues.

One Flew over the Cuckoos nest....I saw it in first yearof college and I swore I would never be a prototypical Nurse Ratchet when I got licensed. Sometimes in practice I would catch myself and say...you are being a nurse ratchett.
Deliverance....Traumatic....I had no idea about ass rape of men. Never crossed my mind.
Seven......I saw it in downtown detroit while on a business trip.....had to walk to my car in a dark garage, and drive 45 min to hotel....it creeped me out. It didnt change my life..but the movie and the circumstances around it regarding where I was are strong memories of fear and uneasiness stay with me as i look back every now and then
Wizard of Oz....I agree...without hitting you over the head it showed the importance of home and family....and the happiness of a child to want to get back to a very modest farm home, rather than be exalted for life in a wonderland as a hero.
I think the average shirley temple movie had the same message about the importance of family...I watched alot of those movies as well.
Apocalyspe NoW, AND Casualties of War, Saving private Ryan Courage Under Fire,.....gave me more insight to war than the movies of the 50s that I used towatch on TV.
Officer and a Gentleman...a movie more about transformation than an military story. It put forth that anyone can change if under the right teacher and right circumstances....and sometimes a combination of the right teacher and a life changing event is needed.
I will speak for my wife on this one...Rocky....she saw it a half dozen time when it came out 5 years before she met me(she was around 19)....it was inspirational to her, as she grew up in an alcoholic household, and she saw a glimmer of hope that she, like Rocky could fight the odds and be a success. Of course she fucked up when she married me.
Mary Poppins.....the father here reminded me of mine.......also a movie about transformation when its all said and done. It taught me that if that father could change, then I could change and not be a strict disciplinarian like my dad.
Fatal Attraction....If I ever thought or think of cheating.....this move brings me back to reality.
