And thats the key in my opinion. I never saw either of the above in an entire show...and thats important.
seeing a clip or a song or 2 or 3 doesnt cut it. Can they keep it up for the full 2 hours
You might be able to pick best vocals or best guitarist etc from albums.
But best front man is a "live" determination, and totally subjective of course....but interesting to hear other names

Something that goes overlooked because a lot of them are associated with booze, drugs and cigarettes, is the tremendous shape some of these singers are in...try doing that shit for 2-2.5 hrs....not easy

The best front man I've seen perform was Robert Plant with Led Zep.
Powerful, across the board that night.

James Hetfield is the best singer I've ever had the pleasure of watching perform live (meaning: in person) as you can watch just about anyone live on YouTube now.
With that said, Hetfield doesn't have a great command of the stage. Of course, he's the rhythm guitarist, as well, so sings into a standing microphone which also largely limits his mobility. Even considering that, if I could have a private concert featuring any band of my choosing, that band would be Metallica.
I'll tell you that Simon LeBon of Duran Duran performed exceptionally well live and had a terrific stage presence. He jumped over the drummer and the drum kit prior to going into the final chorus of, "The Reflex." He may not have been old, but he sure wasn't young.
Then again, Steve Walsh of Kansas does headstands on keyboards, while playing them, so that was pretty impressive. He didn't quite have the wind to finish, "Carry on Wayward Son," as strong as one would have liked, but that's okay. Kansas was also my first concert, opened for Styx, that's an awesome freaking first concert.
I guess I don't really know, stage presence is something I consider more icing on the cake than anything, theatrics even more so. I mean, if you want to talk theatrics you would look at something like Rammstein, but overall, that show sucked.
Being that the vocals are the most important aspect to me by a country mile, I'm going with Hetfield. He's unbelievable.
